Latest Restaurant Review (Patshull Park)

The Lakeside Restaurant at Patshull Park Hotel, Golf and Country Club is located on a secluded 200-acre estate near Pattingham Village, a pleasant 15-minute drive outside of central Telford. The hotel was opened in the 1980’s and is a well-known venue in the area, the aptly named Lakeside Restaurant has fabulous lake views which regular diners and hotel guests come to enjoy time and time again.
Candlelit tables, crisp white linen table cloths and fresh flowers give a sophisticated ambience to The Lakeside dining room. The restaurant is open between 7pm and 9.30pm, 7 days a week, the main evening menu is updated regularly and there is even a dedicated vegetarian menu available. You can enjoy 2 courses for a very reasonable £18.95 or 3 courses for £25, including coffee or tea and mints to finish.
The Lakeside is also open for Sunday lunch from 12.30 – 2.30pm. The Sunday lunch menu changes each week to keep things fresh for repeat customers, with traditional roasts, fish and vegetarian options to suit all preferences. There is also a full carvery available on the last Sunday of each month.
On arrival we were welcomed and seated at a lovely candlelit table, the restaurant is spacious and airy and can seat up to 80 diners, during the lighter summer evenings and Sunday lunchtimes the full-length windows provide lovely views across the picturesque lake.
We ordered some drinks to enjoy while we perused the menu, I had a lovely chilled glass of Prosecco. To begin I ordered the starter from this week’s specials menu, which was a Parma ham, goat’s cheese and avocado salad, Aaron opted for the seasonal melon. After a short wait our food arrived, it was beautifully presented and tasted just as good as it looked. The goat’s cheese was tangy and rich, complementing the sweetness of the Parma ham and smooth creamy texture of the ripe avocado and the balsamic drizzle added a zingy acidity, which completed the flavours of the dish perfectly.
Aaron’s light and refreshing melon starter was served with zesty orange, a deliciously sweet yet sharp raspberry sorbet and was sprinkled with fresh chopped mint, he said that this starter was like sunshine on a plate, and was very light and fresh, leaving plenty of room for his main course!
For main course, Aaron couldn’t resist the fillet steak (£9.50 supplement) and I went for the sea bass. The fillet steak arrived perfectly cooked to Aaron’s specification, served with grilled mushrooms, blanched cherry tomatoes and a generous stack of triple cooked chips, he also opted for the mixed peppercorn and brandy sauce to accompany his steak. The filet steak was a really good size and was meltingly tender, the sauce was rich and flavoursome and the triple cooked chips were just divine, light and fluffy inside with a golden crispy skin, these were simply the perfect chips!
My sea bass was wonderful; a delicate filet of flaky fish with crispy pan fried skin, served on top of a bed of crushed new potatoes and blanched cherry tomatoes. This dish was perfectly executed and I really enjoyed every mouthful.
The dessert menu included several tempting options, so it was no easy task to choose but in the end I just had to try the chocolate and hazelnut mousse, Aaron ordered the lemon cheesecake.
My dessert consisted of a wafer thin chocolate and hazelnut disk, topped with a neat tower of light and airy chocolate and hazelnut mousse, dusted with cocoa, with a dark chocolate curl and a mini meringue. This dessert was delectable; it was rich and satisfying without being heavy, the perfect ending to my meal.
Aaron commented that his cheesecake had a lovely fresh lemony flavour, the biscuit base was sweet and crumbly and the cheesecake had a perfectly smooth and creamy texture.
We both thoroughly enjoyed our evening at The Lakeside Restaurant, many of the staff have worked at Patshull Park for many years and their dedication and professionalism is clear to see. Our food was beautifully prepared and presented and the service was impeccable. I would definitely recommend booking in for an evening meal or perhaps a Sunday lunch with family or friends very soon… if you appreciate good food, lovely views and great service, you will definitely enjoy a meal at The Lakeside Restaurant.
